On Thursday 25 September 2025 Our Tide hosted a business engagement event at The Glass Box Restaurant on Clevedon Pier. At the event, the new Renewable Energy Community Hub project was launched, with an ambitious vision to co-locate three different types of clean energy – tidal stream, wind and solar – on Clevedon Pier. With small scale, non-intrusive energy capture devices the Hub can become a focal point for community interest and education on clean energy technology. A donation of £4,000 from the Churngold Quartet Charitable Fund has created a fantastic foundation to build on and allowed us to host the engagement event with real confidence that the initiative would capture the imagination of the business community.
The project partners, Our Tide and Clevedon Pier & Heritage Trust, used the event to invite local business leaders to get involved and support the project, through sponsorship and/or in-kind support. This was met with an enthusiastic response and the project is off to a flying start.
The event was attended by many local business and community leaders from Clevedon, North Somerset, Bristol and beyond. Attendees enjoyed the opportunity to hear about the Hub plans, meet like-minded peers, and enjoy the best that the Pier had to offer on a beautiful day. We were particularly grateful to have the enthusiastic support and warm words of Proteus Marine Renewables, one of the world’s leading tidal energy technology companies, based in Bristol, and Sadik Al-Hassan MP.
Several businesses expressed their interest in supporting the Hub, and since the event EcoSurety have pledged a donation of a further £1,000.
